Confusing Instructions from Mail-Order Lead to Dangerous Consequences

At the time this story was shared, Charlie and his wife Catherine, a family from Nevada, had shared a blessed life with over 47 years together and 3 sons. The incident that changed their lives forever happened when the mail order pharmacy had sent his wife a prescription for a blood thinner that said on the bottle read to “take as needed.” The physician had written the medication as “take one pill per day.” This error nearly cost Catherine her life. It was only caught after she had a stroke and the physicians asked Charlie if his wife had been taking her blood thinners.

“My wife was totally self-sufficient before this unfortunate incident.” After this incident, Catherine became dependent on him for her care and had issues processing and speaking her thoughts.

When we asked if he was forced to use mail order pharmacy, he said the instructions were borderline, "Use Express Scripts mail-order pharmacy or pay 100%."

 Since his wife's stroke, Charlie had been trying to reach out to his senator to explain the error and ask for help to ensure this doesn't happen to other patients.
