A Mother's Day $0 Gift Request - Please Comment For The FTC to Protect Patients From PBMs

Change.org Petition Update (MAY 8, 2022) — Hello to our beautiful supporters. Happy Mother's Day to all.

For many mothers whose children have experienced life-threatening health conditions, our children's lives are our most precious gift on this mothers day and helping us protect our children is the most precious gift that you can give.

So, I have a request on behalf of all the moms who are supporters of this petition who have witnessed their child's health issues worsen when:

  • they were forced to a mail order pharmacy and the medication didn't arrive on time.

  • they weren't given a choice but to only receive coverage of their child's life-saving medication if they placed it in only a bag and placed it in a freezing or hot mailbox or truck that reaches 120-170 degrees, knowing their child's life would be at risk.

  • the relationships with the pharmacists and pharmacy staff that know their child and their complex needs personally were stripped from their coverage.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has extended the timeline to comment unitl May 25th to give the public additional time to comment about the many ways that the insurance companies' pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs - Optum RX, CVS Caremark, and Express Scripts) harm patients in terms of accessibility and affordability. These companies have merged with insurance co's and they force/steer some patients to the mail order pharmacies they own.

Lastly, if you missed the awesome bipartisan Senate Committee meeting this week, you missed a good one! I was thankful to see the bipartisan concern of the PBM issues. PCMA is the association for PBMs had their president JC Scott to testify. His body language indicated that he was quite uncomfortable under questioning. You can listen to the full meeting here.

Thank you all for your support.
